Our Syllabus
We follow a structured curriculum recommended by our guru, Chitraveena N. Ravikiran, one of the foremost Carnatic musicians and educators of our time. The full syllabus is available on Acharyanet — reach out if you’d like a guided walkthrough of exactly what and how we cover each topic.
How we sequence learning:Â Students begin with the foundational exercises – Sarali Varisais, Jantai Varisais, Datu Varisais, Melasthayi Varisaias and Alankarams – before advancing to Geethams and compositions. This foundation typically takes about a year and sets the stage for everything that follows.

We use Perfecting Carnatic Music Volumes 1 & 2 (Acharyanet). Available as a ~$10 PDF download, or printed and bound by us for ~$45 — a much easier way for students to work.

Guided and classroom recordings for at-home practice, hosted on Google Classroom and our upcoming content platform — launching very soon.

Song notations, practice logs, and progress trackers are provided throughout the year at no additional cost.

What it's like to be part of our school
Our students don’t just learn music – they grow with us like an “insider”. While our tools may be musical, our focus has always been to grow them wholistically as a capable individual in any discipline they take up – academic, sports, humanities and arts, it doesn’t matter. Our goal has always been rooted to grooming them into a full-fledged life!
Paired & Group Learning
Learning Indian Classical Music is more than just having fun with melodies and rhythms. It’s as much a science as it’s an art. We believe that it’s crucial for beginners (of any age) to understand the technical aspects of music before they start drawing joy out of singing. This can get overwhelming sometimes, especially for a young brain coming in as an absolute beginner. So pairing and grouping them with other similar kids (sharing similar levels in their understanding, grasping) makes the learning process joyful, relatable and easy.Â
Annual Recitals
Simply going through the preparation towards showcasing a song in front of a friendly audience can teach them accountability, effectiveness of regular practices, they see their own progress over the years (which in my opinion, the biggest motivation a child can ever get!), remove stage fear and discomfort facing a large crowd early on! So we typically do 1-2 recitals annually.
Competitions and Cultural Events
Our students participate in local Seattle-area and global online competitions. Some of our students who’ve been learning with us for many years, have recently won first prize in various categories including Geethams, Swarajathis and Krithis sub-junior categories. Our school has been represented at events like Timber Ridge TRES Annual World Cultural Day.
Masterclasses with visiting artists
When performing artists tour Seattle, we design workshops tailored to our students’ current level — so they experience the same concepts through entirely different hands and voices. Past masterclasses have featured the Trichur Brothers and Anahitha & Apoorva.
